Bob Marley Celebrates Double Anniversary

Bob Marley and the Wailers, Simmer Down

50 years ago today, Bob Marley and the Wailers’ debut release, Simmer Down, topped the Jamaican music chart.

The single, which features backing for the legendary Skatalites band, was released by producer Coxsone Dodd in December 1963 and went on to become the Christmas hit of that year, allegedly selling more than 80,000 copies in just four months.

Incidentally, Marley would have celebrated his 69th earthday today.
