Review: Bass Odyssey Anniversary – Stone Love, Killamanjaro, Silver Hawk and Lady Saw

Bass Odyssey Anniversary 2013Earlier this month, we travelled to the rural parish of St Ann, where Bob Marley was born, to celebrate the 24th anniversary of world famous sound system Bass Odyssey.

Bass Odyssey are first-class sound boy killers, having won the UK Cup Clash three times, but are equally admired for their ability to entertain party fans.

The night was particularly exciting for connoisseurs and enthusiasts as three other foundation sounds were on the bill: Silver Hawk, Stone Love and the legendary Killamanjaro.

Bass Odyssey 24th Anniversary 9 August 2013

Silver Hawk rarely perform since the death of their founder legendary dancehall producer Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson in 2009, so this was something of an historic event.

To be honest, Silver Hawk were a bit rusty and when their Billy Ocean, Super Cat, Junior Reid and  dubplates failed to ignite the crowd, they were forced to juggle hot new singles to keep the place rocking.

An energetic PA from Lady Saw (above) and two excellent sets from Bass Odyssey were thoroughly enjoyable, but the night really belonged to Killamanjaro and Stone Love who had us skanking till sunrise. BV rating: 4/5
