Sweet Like Sugar Minott: British Newcomer Randy Valentine

Randy Valentine, Poor Man's Loving video and Girls AloneBritish newcomer Randy Valentine is a star of the future and clearly destined for great things.

Over the past 12 months, the young singer has completed successful tours of Europe and Central America, and earlier this week, Girls Alone , his latest single, entered the German Reggae charts.

Valentine is rapidly building an impressive catalogue of hits, including Poor Man’s Loving, for which he released a video (above), earlier this year.

We love his syrupy vocals and ability to effortlessly switch from contemporary beats to old-skool classics. Additionally, like us, he’s obviously a big fan of the late reggae legend Sugar Minott.

In October, we noted how Valentine utilised a classic Studio One rhythm Minott made famous several decades earlier.

He repeats the formula on Poor Man’s Loving, which employs the popular Queen of the Minstrels rhythm, originally recorded by The Eternals in 1969 and reworked by Minott eight years later for his love song Come on Home .

Listen to all three versions above and look out for an interview with Mr Valentine real soon.
